Webinar Title: Empowering women in senior academic leadership in Egypt: current situation and future vision

Introduction and Welcome (10 minutes)

  • Introduction (2 minutes)
         – Brief introduction about the moderators (Rasha, Nourhan, Rami and Miran), welcoming and purpose of the webinar.
  • Participant Introductions (8 minute) (name, title, affiliation).
  • Presentation: Women in Academic Leadership in Egypt, (15 minutes)
         – Brief presentation on the current status, statistics, and context of women in senior academic roles.

Session 1: Current Situation, Obstacles, and Challenges (30 minutes)

  •  How do you perceive the representation of women in senior leadership roles within your academic institution in Egypt?
  •  Are there any noticeable trends or changes in the past few years regarding women in leadership in Egyptian higher education institutions?
  • What common challenges do women face when striving for senior leadership positions in academia?

Session 2: Personal Experiences and Societal Influences (30 minutes)

  • How do you think societal norms in Egypt influence the career trajectories of women in academia?
  • What personal experiences have you had or observed related to gender bias in academic leadership?
  • In what ways does the lack of female leaders affect the academic environment and policies?
  • How do these gender imbalances impact the career aspirations of female students and junior faculty?

Session 3: Future Visions and Female Academic Leaders’ Network (20 minutes)

  • What specific actions can institutions take to support women aiming for senior leadership roles?
  • How can mentorship programs be designed to effectively support women in academia?
  • What long-term goals should be set to ensure a balanced representation of genders in academic leadership?

Session 4: Building a Supportive Network (20 minutes)

  • What kind of support or resources would you expect from a network of female leaders?
  • How can such a network foster collaboration and support among women in academia?
  • What initiatives or activities should be prioritized to establish and sustain a female leaders’ network in Egypt?
